The police in Ekiti State, on Tuesday, arraigned a woman and three teenagers before an Ado Ekiti Magistrates’ Court for alleged burglary, stealing household and personal items and receiving stolen items.
The defendants are Chioma Chijioke, 31, and the teenagers aged between 15 and 16.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Oriyomi Akinwale, said the defendants committed the offences on October 2, 2020 at Ilupeju Ekiti in the Oye Local Government area the state.
Akinwale alleged that the teenagers unlawfully burgled the shop of one Blessing Ayeni and stole 15 bags of rice and a 25-litre keg of palm oil, all valued at N500,000.
The prosecutor further alleged that the teenagers also stole ladies’ weave-on hair and body cream from the shop, which were valued at N50,000.
He added that the teenagers sold the goods to Chijioke, who was arraigned for receiving stolen property.
“The offences contravene sections 516 and 411(2) of the Criminal Code, Cap C 16, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012,” Akinwale said.
The court did not take the plea of the defendants as their counsel, Mr Adefolaju Ayobioloja, applied for their bail on liberal terms, promising that they would not jump bail.
Magistrate Owoleso Olarewaju granted admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties each.
Olarewaju added that one of the sureties must be a civil servant on Grade Level 10 and must have a landed property within the jurisdiction of the court.
The magistrate adjourned the case till December 15, 2020 for further hearing.
