Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs (popularly known as Olu Jacobs) was born on July 11, 1942 to parents from Egba Alake town in Ogun State’s Abeokuta South local government area. He is a well-known Nollywood actor, producer, director, television host, entrepreneur, investor, and philanthropist.
Olu Jacobs Early Life and Education
Jacobs was born in Abeokuta, Ogun State in western Nigeria, but spent his early childhood in Kano State in northern Nigeria. He received his First School Leaving Certificate from Holy Trinity School in Kano State. He then finished his secondary school education in Lagos State and earned his West African Senior School Certificate. He started acting in secondary school, where he was a member of a drama club. He moved to England in the United Kingdom after finishing secondary school to study acting at The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art London.

While in the UK, Jacobs featured in various British television shows and dramatic series such as The Goodies, Till Death, Angels, and others. He was inspired to take acting as a career when he attended Hubert Ogunde’s annual concert party held in Kano State, Nigeria in 1970. In 1971, he joined the entertainment industry and acted in his first movies “Murderous Angels” written by Conor Cruise O’Brien in London, United Kingdom. In 1978, he played the role of President Mageeba in Michael Codron’s presentation of Tom Stoppard’s play “Night and Day”.
Jacobs was one of the pioneers of the Nigerian movie industry, Nollywood, and contributed immensely to the growth of Nollywood in Nigeria. He is one of the most gifted, most skillful, most creative and most talented actors in Nigeria.
