Adewale Rotimi Akinnuoye-Agbaje (nicknamed Triple A and Wally) was born on August 22, 1967 in Islington, London, England to Nigerian parents of Yoruba descent. He is an actor, fashion model, writer, director, and producer who has made a name for himself in the international entertainment industry.

Agbaje’s biological parents abandoned him at the age of six weeks to a white working-class family in Tilbury. As a teen struggling with cultural identity, he joined a local skinhead gang to avoid racial persecution at their hands. After becoming a violent thief at the age of 16, his foster parents sent him to a boarding school in Surrey, where he eventually attempted suicide before coming to terms with his background and turning his life around. Agbaje has a Bachelor of Laws degree from King’s College London as well as a Masters of Laws degree from the University of London.

While still in university, Agbaje worked in a clothing store and was later introduced to the world of modeling. His modeling career eventually led him to Hollywood, where he debuted as an actor in the 1995 action adventure film Congo. He is best known for his roles as Simon Adebisi in the HBO prison series Oz in the 1990s and as Mr. Eko in ABC’s survivor drama “Lost.” He has appeared in numerous top Hollywood films and collaborated with well-known celebrities. He went from playing Ernie Hudson’s good friend, the guide “Kahega” to Hudson’s “Capt. Munro” in Congo (1995), to playing his enemy, the sociopath “Adebisi” to Hudson’s hard-headed “Warden Glynn” in Oz (1997). He is fluent in several languages including Italian, Yoruba, Swahili, and (of course) English. He can “get along” in a few other languages, including French. The name of his character, “Atticus” in the action adventure film Pompeii is similar to a role he played in the 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea TV film, the name of whom was “Cabe Attucks”.
