Sodiq Abubakar Yusuf (born May 6, 1985) is a leading indigenous rapper and songwriter in Nigeria.
He is best known by his stage name CDQ and for singing in Yoruba, his native language.
He rose to prominence following the release of his official debut single, Nowo E Soke, featuring Wizkid.
Following that, he worked with Masterkraft and Olamide to release the hit single Indomie.
CDQ won an award at the 2016 Nigeria Music Video Awards thanks to the song.

On May 6, 1985, CDQ was born to Mr. and Mrs. Yusuf’s family. He was born in Orile, Lagos State, but his family is from Ilorin, Kwara State. Sodiq Abubakar is a Muslim who comes from a Muslim family.
CDQ grew up in Orile before moving to Ilorin for his high school education. He returned to Lagos State after graduating from secondary school with honors.
He applied to Lagos State University and graduated four years later with a degree in Economics.
CDQ took up an interest in music while in high school, focusing on rap music. Initially, he started with English rap, but with time, he switched to indigenous rap music, rapping in his native dialect, Yoruba.

CDQ began professionally performing music in 2008 as a backup singer for Da Grin before transitioning to English rapping with M.I. Abaga.
In 2013, he signed a recording contract with Masterkraft’s General Records after winning a rap battle at the weekly Industry Nite in December 2012.
In 2014, he released his breakthrough single “Indomie,” which featured Olamide’s vocals and a Davido remix.
The Masterkraft-produced song launched CDQ’s career, earning him two nominations at the 2015 Nigeria Entertainment Awards and a nomination in the Best Street-Hop Artist category at The Headies 2015.
In anticipation of his debut studio album, Quality, CDQ enlisted the help of Wizkid, with whom he released “Nowo E Soke” as the album’s lead single.


Unlimited L.A directed the song’s music video, which went on to win the Best Afro Hip Hop Video category at the 2016 Nigeria Music Video Awards.
He revealed the album’s cover art on August 16, 2016, before it was released on August 22, 2016, to positive critical acclaim through General Records.
On November 11, 2016, he established his own record label, N.S.N.S, an abbreviation for No Struggle No Success Entertainment.

CDQ was nominated for two awards at the 2015 Nigerian Entertainment Awards. He also secured the nomination for the Best Street-Hop Artist at the 2015 Headies Awards.
He won the Best Street-Hop Artiste at the 2017 Ghana-Naija Showbiz Awards.
CDQ Personal Life


The rapper’s initiative to give back to society astounded many people. To launch the scheme, he traveled to his home state of Kwara.
The singer also paid a courtesy visit to the Emir of Ilorin on his first day in Ilorin to discuss his intentions and plans for the state’s secondary school students.
His two-day trip was packed with activities, and he and his team were greeted warmly by the school, which had organized a special assembly gathering to honor one of their own.
The musician gave the students writing materials and wall clocks.
“The (CEEI) project is targeted at solving writing materials problems in the state as all secondary schools in Kwara State will benefit from it,” the musician’s publicist said of the initiative.
