Crayon Biography

Sensational Charles Chibueze Chukwu, better known as Crayon, is a 21-year-old fast-rising Nigerian Afropop artist and songwriter.
Crayon, an Ebonyi State native, was born on November 21, 2000, in Lagos, Lagos State, Nigeria, and is currently signed to Blowtime Entertainment, an imprint of Mavins Record.
Crayon Early Life and Education

Crayon’s real name is Charles Chibueze Chukwu, but he is more commonly known by his stage name, Crayon, which is pronounced “Cray on.” He was born on July 8, 2000, in Orile, Iganmu, Lagos State, and will be 21 years old in 2020. He’s young, yes, but he has potential, just like Rema, Joeboy, Omay Lay, and so on.
He was born into a family of two children, himself and his younger brother, followed by his parents, who all live in Iba, Lagos, after moving from Orile. Crayon is from Ebonyi State, but he spent most of his childhood with Yoruba-speaking people from the Ojo community.

He has always been a lover of music right from his childhood days, his dad owned a CD rent shop where he spends the most time playing the music of his favorite artists such as Usher, Zule Zoo, 50 Cent, Wizkid, Fela, Drake, Justin Bieber, Bryson Tiller, and Davido. His mum was a businesswoman.
Crayon was that child that would be singing as he is on his house chores or taking a bath. His parents encouraged him to join his primary school’s teen choir cause they knew he had the musical gift.
In 2016 he gave up his pursuit for higher education after he didn’t succeed with the JAMB UTME, he tried four times. His educational dreams were halted after a university denied him admission to study Food and Nutrition. He moved on with his music career despite the pressure and frustration that follows not being able to make it to the university “just like your mates”. He passed through an emotional strain for about a year in 2015 until a friend, Nos, urged him to step up his music career.
Crayon Career

Crayon’s musical career could be described as haphazard. He met Ozedikus, a music producer who first recognized his potential, one day in 2016, when he decided to record a piece of music in a studio. He recorded seven tracks with his neighborhood friend Nos and Ozedikus. Before becoming Crayon, Charles was given the name “July” because he was born in that month. He would distribute his songs by visiting every local radio station with Ozedikus and Nos. When a South African fan recommended one of his first songs, “Orobo Love,” he was overjoyed.

Crayon’s career took a turn for the better at the end of 2016. Crayon replaced July as his given name. He met a friend, K.O.B, who was very supportive. K.O.B, who knew Mavin through a friend named Seun, gave Seun Crayon’s songs. Seun was carried away by Crayon’s songs, which he played loudly most of the time, and it was through this that Baby Fresh first noticed Crayon. Ozedikus later produced Rema’s Dumebi beat.
Because Baby Fresh liked his songs, he met Don Jazzy and signed a deal with Mavin Records’ BlowTime Entertainment on May 31, 2019. He appeared on an all-Mavin single titled “All is in order” and later released an EP album titled “Cray Cray.”
