Obafemi Bandele Lasode was born in Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State, to parents from Abeokuta in the southwest Nigerian state of Ogun.
While attending St. Gregory’s College in Obalende, Lagos State, he earned his West African Senior School Certificate.
Obafemi Lasode earned a Bachelor of Science in business administration from the Kogod School of Business in Washington, D.C.
He continued his education at Brooklyn College of the City University of New York, where he earned a Master of Science in Communication Art.

He began working as a Promotions Coordinator for Inner City Broadcasting Corporation in New York City in 1983, and in 1984, he hosted Sonny Okosuns at the renowned Apollo Theater in Harlem.
He created the Radio Nigeria 2 program Afrika in Vogue, which aired for a year beginning in the first quarter of 1989 and featured African music.
In 1995, Obafemi Lasode established Afrika ‘n Vogue/Even-Ezra Studios.
