Hailee Steinfeld Early Life and Education

Hailee Caribe Steinfeld was born in Los Angeles, California, on December 11, 1996, to interior designer Cheri and fitness trainer Pete Steinfeld.
Steinfeld claims she was inspired to act after watching her Emmy-winning cousin True O’Brien star in TV commercials, but her mother insisted she take acting lessons for a year before auditioning.
After attending Cynthia Bain’s Young Actor Studio at the age of nine, she landed her first agent and began appearing in TV commercials, including a Kmart clothing ad.
In Los Angeles, California, USA, she completed her primary and secondary education at Ascension Lutheran School, Conejo Elementary School, and Colina Middle School.
She was then home schooled until she graduated from high school in 2015, allowing her to pursue her professional career while continuing her education.
During this time, she gained acting experience by appearing in student films directed by aspiring directors at colleges such as USC, UCLA, and Chapman University, as well as guest roles on the Fox sitcoms Back to You in 2007 and Sons of Tucson in 2010.
Griffin Steinfeld is her older brother and a race car driver.
Hailee Steinfeld Career

True Grit’
At 14 years old, Steinfeld received critical acclaim for her breakthrough role in the 2010 Western True Grit, as Mattie Ross, a headstrong teen determined to find her father’s killer.
To land the coveted role (which she described as “like winning the lottery”), she auditioned in character for directors Joel and Ethan Coen, wearing a homemade 1800s-style costume.
She eventually beat out over 15,000 other actresses to co-star with Hollywood heavyweights Jeff Bridges, Josh Brolin, and Matt Damon.
She did some of her own stunt work for the film, her first feature, and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. (She was defeated by Melissa Leo of The Fighter.)
Romeo and Juliet
Following the success of True Grit, Steinfeld was chosen to be the face of Italian fashion brand Miu Miu and was cast as Juliet Capulet in an adaptation of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet in 2011.
Because she was only 14 at the time, there was some controversy about onscreen nudity in the script, which director Carlo Carlei said needed to be revised to make the actress more age-appropriate.
The film didn’t come out until 2013, the same year she starred as Violet in the romantic drama Begin Again and as Petra Arkanian in the sci-fi action film Ender’s Game. She continued to demonstrate her acting abilities in 2014, appearing in films such as 3 Days to Kill, The Homesman, and The Keeping Room.

Pitch Perfect
Steinfeld first appeared in the Pitch Perfect franchise as Emily Junk in the musical comedy’s 2015 sequel, Pitch Perfect 2, which debuted with the highest box office total ever recorded for a musical.
Steinfeld sang in the film, alongside Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, and Elizabeth Banks, and landed a recording contract with Republic Records less than a week after its release. (She was also in the 2017 sequel, Pitch Perfect 3.)
Other Movies
Steinfeld, who appeared in Taylor Swift’s 2015 music video for “Bad Blood,” returned to the awards circuit in 2016, earning a Golden Globe nomination for her role as angsty teen Nadine Byrd in the coming-of-age comedy The Edge of Seventeen.
Following that, she provided voice work for the animated hit Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and starred in the Transformers film Bumblebee, both of which were released in late 2018.
