On March 8th, 1957 in the city of Lagos, Nigeria, Oluyemi Oluleke Osinbajo was born to his father, Sir Opeoluwa Osinbajo. In addition to being a pastor and a lawyer, he holds the titles of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Senior Partner at Simmons Cooper Partners, Professor of Law, and is currently serving as Vice President of Nigeria.

Yemi attended Corona School Lagos during her first few years of elementary schooling in Lagos. He attended Igbobi College in Yaba from 1969 until 1975, during which time he was awarded the State Merit Award in 1971, the School Prize for English Oratory in 1972, the Adeoba Prize for English Oratory from 1972 until 1975, the Elias Prize for Best Performance in History from the West African Senior School Certificate in 1973, the School Prize for Literature from the Higher School Certificate in 1975, and the African Statesman Intercollegiate Best Speaker’s Prize (1974).
After that, he attended the University of Lagos for his undergraduate degree in the years 1975–1978, where he earned a Second Class Upper Degree in Law. After that, he went on to practice law. Additionally, he was awarded the Graham-Douglas Prize for Commercial Law for his work in this area.

After completing his education, Osibanjo began his career as a lawyer. He was so successful in his chosen field that he was eventually promoted to the post of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN). He held the position of Head of Public Law in the Faculty of Law at the University of Lagos, where he also taught law. He served in this capacity from the years 1988 through 1992, during which time he advised the Attorney General and Minister of Justice of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
In addition to that, he was an employee of the United Nations and a member of the Committee of Experts on Conduct and Discipline of United Nations Peacekeeping Personnel around the World, which was appointed by the Secretary General of the United Nations. He served as a non-executive Director for Citibank in addition to his role as an Ethics Advisor for the Ethics Committee of the African Development Bank.
In 1999, he was given the position of Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice of Lagos State, and in 2003, he was reappointed for a second term in that role. During the time that he worked for the government, he initiated a project to improve the legal system in Lagos State.
