On January 29, 1960, Yemi Shodimu was born in the community of Egbaland, which is located within the city of Abeokuta in the state of Ogun in Nigeria. He has worked in television, film, and theater as a director, producer, and presenter.
Yemi Shodimu Early Life and Education
Shodimu’s formative years were spent in Abeokuta, in the palace of Alake of Egbaland. It was there that he was initiated into the Yoruba cultural tradition. He attended the University of Ife, which is now known as Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, and the University of Lagos, UNILAG, and received a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Arts and a Master of Science in Mass Communication, respectively.

In the beginning of his music career, Shodimu was a support vocalist. He was a backup singer for Chief Ebenezer Obey Fabiyi, MFR, who was a well-known legend in the Juju music genre. When we met him, he was still a young boy. During the early 1970s, he was a member of Obey’s backing band. This was before he began his career in acting in 1976, when he met the other actors in the cast of The Restless Village Headmaster while he was attending a rehearsal at the National Theatre in Iganmu, Lagos. When he contacted the crew, they invited him to become a part of the group immediately.
