William Kipchirchir Samoei Arap Ruto, born December 21, 1966, is a popular Kenyan politician who served as Minister of Home Affairs from August to December 2002, Minister of Agriculture from 2008 to 2010, and Minister of Higher Education from April to October 2010. He is Kenya’s 11th Deputy President and the country’s president-elect.
William Ruto Early Life and Education
William Ruto, a Kalenjin from the Rift Valley Province, was born on December 21, 1966, in Sambut village, Kamagut, Uasin Gishu County, to parents Daniel Cheruiyot and Sarah Cheruiyot.
Ruto began his education in Nandi County at Kerotet Elementary School before progressing to Wareng Secondary School and Kapsabet Boys High School, where he eventually completed his primary, Ordinary Level, and Advanced Level studies.
After that, he enrolled in the University of Nairobi to study botany and zoology, eventually earning a bachelor’s degree in both disciplines in 1990.
He enrolled in a Ph.D. program at the University of Nairobi the year after graduating, and after experiencing a number of setbacks, he eventually finished and received his Ph.D. on December 21, 2018, from the institution.
