In the wake of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) nominations, which generated a mix of excitement and disappointment, Nollywood actor Ibrahim Chatta has joined the discussion, expressing his thoughts on being overlooked for a nomination.
His comments have sparked reactions from his colleagues, including popular actress Bidoun Okeowo, who recently made headlines with her own reaction to the AMVCA snub.
Ibrahim Chatta, known for his exceptional talent and versatility in the Nigerian film industry, during a radio programme said he was not bothered by his nomination, but by the fact that the organisers had never extended an invitation to him.
He said, “My exclusion from the nomination list didn’t make me feel bad because no matter how hard you think you are working, your mates are also working, and the best has to be picked every year. But my problem is that they don’t invite me and that looks like a conspiracy against me.
“I understand that it’s not everyone that gets nominated into the categories, but at least they’re supposed to invite me, but they don’t. So, I do feel like – is it that my works are not worthy enough? Because I used to see my younger colleagues, including those that just joined Nollywood, all showing off in different outfits at the event.”
Reacting to this actress Biodun Okeowo and some others colleagues took to the comment section to drum support the legend actor.
Biodun Okeowo wrote, ” The Real IDAN with no competitor”
Femi Branch wrote, ” Ibrahim YOU ARE GOOD. You are a phenomenal Actor and a pride to Africa. I tell you this everytime I see you, I still told you some days ago and I will keep saying it. Thank you @gbengaoyato for making the world realise this truth. L’ase Eledua Oscar e nbo ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️”
His words resonated with many in the industry, including Bidoun Okeowo, who had also expressed her disappointment over the AMVCA snub. Bidoun Okeowo quickly responded to Ibrahim Chatta’s post, showing her support and agreeing with his sentiment. She wrote, “You said it right, brother. Keep shining regardless.”

Other actors, such as Femi Adebayo and Mercy Aigbe, also chimed in, echoing the sentiment that true talent and hard work should be recognized, regardless of formal nominations.
The reactions from these esteemed actors highlight the collective disappointment felt by those who were not nominated for the AMVCA. It also underscores the importance of supporting and uplifting one another in an industry where recognition can often be elusive.
