Yvonne Nelson was born in Accra, Ghana, and spent her childhood there with her siblings and parents.
She is descended from the Fante and the Ga. She began her education at St. Martin De Porres School in Accra.
She later went to Aggrey Memorial Senior High School.
During her postsecondary studies, she earned a degree in human resource management from Central University and Zenith University College.

Yvonne Nelson has appeared in nearly 100 films, including Crime to Christ, Princess Tyra, Passion of the Soul, Plan B, Tears of Womanhood, and others.
Yvonne Nelson decided to produce her first film, The Price, in 2011 after her success as an actress. Married the Next Year was released a year later. In 2013, she won Best Picture at the Ghana Movie Awards and Best Ghanaian Movie at the City Peoples Entertainment Awards in Nigeria.
