Omawumi Megbele, better known as Omawumi, is a Nigerian singer-songwriter and actress of Itsekiri descent. She is a Globacom, Konga.com, and Malta Guinness brand ambassador. She is also a part of the “Rise with the Energy of Africa” campaign. She rose to prominence as the runner-up on West African Idols, a reality TV show that is part of the Idols franchise, in 2007. Her second album, The Lasso of Truth, was a commercial success in Nigeria, according to reports.

Omawumi Boma Megbele, also known as Omawumi, was born on April 13, 1982 in Warri, Delta state to Chief Dr. Frank Anirejuoritse Megbele and Mrs. Aya Megbele. She is the twelfth of fourteen children.
She attended Nana Primary School, College of Education Demonstration Secondary School, and Ambrose Alli University before transferring to Alliance Françoise to study French while working for her family’s law firm, ‘O.S Megbele & Associates.’
