Oladapo Daniel Oyebanjo (born 9 June 1980) is a Nigerian singer, rapper, and businessman better known as D’banj.
He also works as a music executive, having co-founded Mo’ Hits Records with producer Don Jazzy. He has received numerous music awards, including Best African Act at the MTV Europe Music Awards in 2007, Artist of the Year at the MTV Africa Music Awards in 2009, Best International Act: Africa at the 2011 BET Awards, Best-selling African Artist at the 2014 World Music Awards, and Evolution at the 2015 MTV Africa Music Awards.
Oyebanjo went by the stage name D’banj, which is a combination of his first name, Dapo, and surname, Oyebanjo.
He is best known internationally for his 2012 summer hit “Oliver Twist,” an uptempo Afrobeats and electronic dance music fusion that topped the African charts in 2011 and was a top 10 hit in the UK singles chart in 2012, reaching No. 2 on the UK R&B chart.
D’banj stated that the year 2021 would be remembered in grand fashion, and that he would release his album “Ikebe” before the end of the first quarter.
D’banj Early Life and Education
D’banj, also known as the Kokomaster or Bangalee, was born in the northern Nigerian city of Zaria to a military officer in charge of an artillery regiment and a devout church dignitary businesswoman from Shagamu in Ogun State.
D’banj has two twin siblings, Taiwo and Kehinde Oyebanjo.
D’banj learned to play the harmonica from his late older brother, Femi Oyebanjo, who died in a plane crash when he was seventeen.
Following the death of his 17-year-old brother, D’banj packed all of his belongings on his bed and picked up his harmonica.
D’banj continued his studies in mechanical engineering at Lagos State University, but he eventually decided to leave the program owing to the frequent strikes and other anomalies.
When he arrived in the United Kingdom in 2001, his plans to finish his mechanical engineering studies in London were derailed when he met Don Jazzy, who was attempting to break into the music industry as a singer and producer.
D’Banj started loitering around the studio while working as a security guard to make ends meet.
Don Jazzy and D’banj returned to Lagos in 2005, after Don Jazzy told Kokomaster that he believed he was a rising star and that the Nigerian music scene was “blossoming.”

D’banj uses a fusion of Afrobeat and Afropop to bring his music to life and into the twenty-first century as a tribute to his mentor Fela Kuti, with breathless enthusiasm and a good dose of humor. His songs are based on his life, and they are often funny, but they also have a deeper meaning that documents the struggle of a young Nigerian trying to achieve his dreams. He speaks and sings in Yoruba, English, and Pidgin English.
No Long Thing, D’banj’s debut album, was released in 2005. Tongolo was the lead single, and it spawned several singles. This was his breakthrough single and a hit. It also gave him the Koko Master persona, with the term Koko taking on various meanings.

D’banj Philanthropy
D’banj is the founder of Koko Foundation for Youth and Peace Development. He was also Nigeria’s first Youth Ambassador for Peace for the UN.
Dbanj, an ambassador for the ONE campaign, published the song “Cocoa Na Chocolate” in support of financial investments in agriculture. At the 2014 All Africa Music Awards, “Cocoa Na Chocolate,” which also featured 18 other African performers, won Best African Collaboration.
