Okawa Shaznay (born May 29, 1986) is an enthralling and passionate Nollywood actress and tv presenter.
With her appearance in the blockbuster film Iyore, starring Rita Dominic and Joseph Benjamin, she is the first Cameroonian to successfully break into Nollywood.
Okawa Shaznay rose to recognition as the star in the 2016 smash TV series Delilah: The Mysterious Case of Delilah Ambrose.
In 2016, she received the Exquisite Lady of the Year (ELOY) award for TV Actress of the Year for her role in the film Delilah.
Okawa Shaznay Early Life and Education
Okawa Shaznay was born on May 5, 1986, in Bamenda, Cameroon’s North West Province.
She grew up in her birth country. She became interested in performing arts, theatrical plays, and short cinema projects at an early age in her home country.
In the 1990s, the massive influx of Nigerian films into Cameroon introduced her to the world of Nollywood, which she grew to love and adore.
Okawa Shaznay completed her secondary education at the Presbyterian Secondary School in Mankon, Bamenda, Cameroon.
She later relocated to the United States in 2005, where she studied accounting and graduated in 2009 with a bachelor’s degree from Texas Southern University.
Okawa Shaznay Career
Master DJ, Okawa’s first film, was produced in Cameroon by Sarabi Pictures in 2004 before transferring to the United States. She joined the All Africa Theater Company in Houston, where she spent two summers touring with an adaption of Chinua Achebe’s “Things Fall Apart.”
She went on to work on over 10 African films in the US, with some of Nollywood’s top performers. In 2010, she rose to prominence in the African film business in the United States, and the UK blog Dulce Camer named her one of the top 50 Cameroonians to watch in 2010.
Later, Shaznay went to Africa to star in her first major motion picture, Cheaters, directed by the great Frank Rajah Arase. She made her Nigerian film debut in 2014 with the blockbuster “Iyore,” which was released in theaters in 2015. She appeared alongside Nollywood stars Rita Dominic and Joseph Benjamin.
Okawa, one of Cameroonia’s few rising stars in African cinema today, also starred in the 2016 TV series “Delilah.”
