Tope Alabi biography


Tope Alabi (born 27th October 1970) popularly known as Ore ti o common, and as Agbo Jesu. She is a Nigerian gospel singer, film music composer and actress.
Tope Alabi was born and raised in Lagos State, Nigeria to Pa Joseph Akinyele Obayomi and Madam Agnes Kehinde Obayomi as their only daughter out of the three children in the family. She is married with two daughters, Ayomiku and Deborah and a son, Boluwatife. She is from Yewa, Imeko of Ogun State, Nigeria.
Tope Alabi Early Life and Education


The only daughter among three children, Tope grew up in Lagos and Ibadan, Oyo state. She attended Oba Akinyele Memorial High School, Bashorun Anlugbua, Ibadan and obtained her West Africa School Certificate (WAEC) in the year 1986. She had her tertiary education at The Polytechnic, Ibadan where she graduated in 1990 with a diploma in Mass Communication.
Also known as Ore ti o common, she joined the then “Jesters International” (Jacob, Papilolo & Aderupoko) group at Ibadan, starring with the group from 1982 to 1984. This was during her secondary school days which afforded her training, exposure and experience in drama. After completing her diploma, she worked briefly with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) Ibadan as a correspondent under the supervision of Mr. Yanju Adegbite. She also worked at NTA Channel 7 Tejuosho (Now NTA Channel 10, Lagos) between 1990 & 1991. Tope also worked with Centerspread Advertising Limited, at Ilupeju area of Lagos and worked with this Company within the year 1991 – 1992 and Re-Union Nigeria Limited, Gbagada, Lagos.
Tope Alabi Career


Tope Alabi’s career started officially when she returned to the Theartre Art profession in 1994, joining the prestigious “Alade Aromire Theartre Group” . She was taught everything about drama and her acting profession grew rapidly and become popular as she gained prominence in the contemporary gospel music industry in Nigeria. She also worked with other popular travelling and stage theater groups in both Ibadan and Lagos.
Alabi has the unique ability of creating several melodies with different traditional and modern beats, giving an edge in the industry. Since the beginning of her singing career, she has been able to release several Yoruba songs in Makossa, Salsa and hip hop beats. One of her most popular album, Agbelebu”, was launched in 2012 and still enjoys fantastic airplay till date. She has successfully released couple of albums making it 8 albums all together in one decade.


She has been invited by various writers, producers and directors in the Yoruba movie industry to write and perform sound tracks for their various movies, she had to her credit to date, about 350 soundtracks which she had composed for various Yoruba movies. It would be of note to state here that Tope Alabi is the pacesetter of soundtracks in the Yoruba Home Video Industry.

Tope Alabi and her husband Soji runs a music label, Tope Alabi Gospel Vibes. Under this label, they organise event and concert where a lot of people come to worship God. One of the worship concert is the annual Praise The Almighty Concert.
Also, they established the Mardebra Comforter Foundation, a subsidiary of the Gospel Vibes. Through the foundation, Tope and her husband cater for orphans and the less-privileged.

Tope met her husband, Soji Alabi, in 1994 while he worked as a studio Engineer. Soji who was pivotal in her becoming a Christian, has since been handling Tope’s various soundtracks and albums with high professionalism. They bagan courting in 1998 and got married on November 16th, 2000. The union has produced four sound and healthy children.
The fame and popularity of Tope Alabi, also known as “Agbo Jesu” (someone that hears and receives instructions from Jesus Christ) in the Nigeria Gospel Music scene is so overwhelming. Testimonies from her various outdoor ministrations of how the Lord has mightily used her to meet with peoples’ need abounds. Through their joint effort, Tope and Soji Alabi have been able to establish Johnpat Studios in Lagos.
