Chief Sunday Adeniyi Adegeye MFR, better known by his stage name King Sunny Ade, is a Nigerian juju singer and songwriter. He was born on September 22, 1946 in Osogbo, which is located in the state of Osun in the southwestern region of Nigeria.
Sunny Ade Early Life and Education
Sunny Ade is considered to be an Omoba by the Yoruba people due to the fact that he was born in Osogbo to a Nigerian royal family that originated in Ondo and Akure.
His mother, Maria Adegeye (Adesida), was a trader, while his father was a church organist. His mother’s maiden name was Adesida. His mother was a part of the Adesida dynasty, which meant that her family tree included her father, Oba Adesida I. (who ruled Akure for 60 years).
It would later include her nephew and Ade’s cousin, Oba Adebiyi Adegboye Adesida Afunbiowo II, who also served as king of Akure.
