Bukky Ajayi Early Life and Education
On February 2nd, 1934, she was born in Surulere, Lagos State, in the west of Nigeria. On July 6, 2016, at her home in Surulere, Lagos State in the west of Nigeria, she passed away at the age of 82. Although she was born and raised in Nigeria, she received a federal government scholarship to pursue her higher education in England, United Kingdom. She began her career in 1966 as a presenter and newscaster for the Nigerian Television Authority NTA after departing from England in 1965 for Nigeria.
Zainab Bukky Ajayi was a devout Muslim even though she was born a christian. She converted to Islam in the early eighties and chose the name Zainab.
Bukky Ajayi was birthed in Nigeria but completed her higher education in England, United Kingdom on the back of a federal government scholarship. At her youthful days, she got a government scholarship which enabled her to study in England.
She was abroad for six years. She completed her formal education , primary and secondary school education in Surulere . She obtained both her First School Leaving Certificate and West African Senior School Certificate in Surulere, Lagos State before she traveled to England on Scholarship.

Her career effort began in 1965 when she departed for Nigeria from England. In 1966, she began working as a presenter and newscaster for the Nigerian Television Authority. In 1966, when she returned to Nigeria from England, she began working for the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) as a presentation assistant before progressing to presenter and then news reader roles.
She officially made her movie debut in the television series “Village Headmaster” during the ’70s before she went on to feature in “Checkmate”, a Nigeria television series that aired during the late 1980s to the early 1990s . She movie career enjoyed many best moments before she reigned for donkey years before she stopped appearing in movies.
While she was in very well present in the Nollywood , she was able to feature in several films and soaps including Critical Assignment, Diamond Ring, Witches among others. In 2016, She contributed a lot to the Nigerian film industry and her efforts was acknowledged and recognized and she and Sadiq Daba were awarded the Industry Merit Award at the 2016 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards.
