Phyno, despite being from Anambra State, was born and reared in Enugu State. His stage name was derived from the word phenomenal and was bestowed upon him by a group of high school buddies.
Phyno grew interested in music producing while in high school. He wanted to be a pilot at first, but was told he could become a doctor instead.
During secondary school, he began playing the piano and drums. In addition, he learned how to record every piece of music he heard.


During his second year at the Institute of Management and Technology in Enugu, where he studied public administration, he began making money through music.

Phyno grew up wanting to be a pilot but ended up studying Public Administration. He began developing his musical talent while in his second year of high school.
Phyno began benefitting from songs in his college days, but he went through a rigorous learning period in his secondary college days. He learnt to play the drums and the piano, and he also discovered how to construct his own visual copy of any audio he heard.
His breakthrough hit was when he produced a song he wrote that included MI Abaga and others. Then there was Ghost Mode, which included Olamide, an indigenous rapper. The song also won the prize for best collaboration.


Phyno through his several notable releases became one of the reputable and properly-regarded rappers in Nigeria. Phyno also had several hit singles including Fada Fada and others.
Phyno first movie role was in Lionheart.
In 2012, Phyno started work on his first studio album, No Guts No Glory with guest appearances from Stormrex, Omawumi, Olamide, Efa, P-Square, Timaya, Flavour N’abania, Mr. Raw, MI, Ice Prince, and Runtown.
Igbo and Nigerian Pidgin were used mostly for the album recording.
Phyno released “Ghost Mode,” featuring Olamide, as the album’s lead single on September 25, 2012.
Both the 2012 The Headies Awards and the 2013 Nigeria Entertainment Awards awarded Ghost Mode Best Collabo.


On December 7, 2012, the music video for “Ghost Mode” was made available. Clarence Peters shot and directed it in Lagos.
The second single from the album, “Man of the Year (Obago),” was released via Sputnet Records on March 23.
At the 2012 The Headies Awards, the song was named Best Rap Single.
On August 20, 2013, “Man of the Year (Obago) music video was posted to YouTube. Illbliss makes a brief cameo appearance in it, which was also written, produced, and directed by Clarence Peters in Abakpa Nike.
The Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation forbade the music video from airing in September 2013.
Phyno made plans to release Deal With It, his third studio album, public in March 2019. “Agu” and “The Bag,” two singles, were part of the project.
Olamide, Falz, Davido, Don Jazzy, Zoro, Runtown, and Teni all make cameos on the album. He also released new single “Bia” July 2021.
