Joke Silva was born into a four-child Amaro family. Her father was a lawyer, while her mother, Adebimbola Silva, was a pioneering doctor who died in July 2015.
After her elementary education, Joke Silva proceeded to Holy Child College in Lagos for her secondary education, where she obtained the West African Senior School Certificate.


Joke then headed to the University of Lagos, where she bagged a Bachelor’s Degree in the English Language before heading to the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Arts in London, the United Kingdom, where she studied drama.

Her performance in these films paved the way for her to be cast in a British-Canadian film, The Secret Laughter of Women, alongside Colin Firth and Nia Long, in 1998.
